Miscommunication

Deborah Tannen once said, â€Å"Conversation between women and men is cross-cultural communication.† By this, she is trying to explain that both men and women speak in different manners. The same exact thing applies to age, ethnicity, gender, race, geography, subculture, language, and occupation. The way one perceives their words is distinguished by their past along with various other reasoning’s. It’s also part of our human nature to adapt to certain communication styles based on the ways we were brought up as children and the environments we stayed in throughout life. Beside communication, miscommunication also occurs with these differences in language. There are multiple things that can be misconstrued from daily conversations between people. One of the reasons this occurs is something as simple as slang. Certain words that can be completely harmless to some teenage subcultures can be a complete insult to someone of an older age. Diverse cultures also speak another way and have different ways of showing emotions, which also leads to miscommunications. One race that demonstrates that fact is Italians; they have the predisposition to raise their voice unknowingly even when only slightly agitated, leading a person to believe that they are truthfully irate. Social class is one more problem with miscommunications. Upper class citizens typically have the inclination to think as if they are speaking at a more knowledgeable level than possibly someone of a very low class who has not had as much education as the opposite. For that reason, occasionally the â€Å"lower class† individual feels as if the upper class citizen is acting as a superior in life to them, while making the â€Å"lower class† individual feel lesser than an equal. With that being said, miscommunications happen on a daily basis. It is a worldwide problem that affects millions of people, and is extremely common. Within time, with more research, and with more observation, we can learn more about the ways words can be misleading and work towards broadening the way we speak to others.

Othello Feature Article

William Shakespeare’s play Othello is one of his four most great tragedies. This play is â€Å"widely known as being one of the most moving and most painful with the fall of proud, dignified man, the murder of a graceful, loving woman, and the unreasoning hatred of a â€Å"motiveless† villain†. Othello is an esteemed general respected and honoured for his position despite the fact he is a moor. After promoting the Florentine Cassio, his â€Å"friend† Iago despises Othello’s decision as he believes it should’ve been him who deserved it.Othello later elopes with Desdemona, which was looked down upon due to Othello being a black man. This is where Iago, the protagonist, begins his malicious plan to bring down Othello. Using Rodrigo, who loves Desdemona, to do his dirty work for him. This play was written in 1604; new versions have been made into film with modern day altercations, for example, â€Å"O†, directed by Tim Blake Nelson. Each o f these show similarities and differences. Many of the themes shown in Shakespeare’s original play Othello use the same themes. and The movie â€Å"O† shows a great deal of parallels to the book.Director Tim Blake Nelson stayed true to Shakespeare's original cast, plot, and sequence of events, but he set his movie in modern times. It takes place in a primarily white high school where Odin, playing the part of Othello, is a basketball star who leads his team to many victories. His right-hand-man, Michel (playing Cassio) is always there for him, helping in any way he can. Hugo plays the part of Iago. He shows a lot of jealousy towards Odin and Desi (playing Desdemona) being in a relationship as well as all of Odin's skills.The characters that create this play show one theme all throughout this play, Deception and Illusion vs. Reality. RACISM: Iago says many things that show his racism clear as daylight. Iago refers to Othello as `thick-lips' and `sooty-bosom', also he ca lls him an assortment of animals including `an old black ram', and a `Barbary horse'. Iago speaks to Desdemona's father, Brabantio. He refers to Desdemona and Othello's children being part animal because Iago is comparing Othello's sexuality to that of a horse. You'll have your daughter covered with a Barbary horse, you'll have your nephews neigh to you, you'll have coursers for cousins, and gennets for germans† (Shakespeare, 32). McEachern describes Venice as being â€Å"proto-liberal†, even with that view in mind; she describes Iago's racism as being â€Å"super-subtle† (140). Subtle is the word of choice because gradually, all of the main characters become Iago's dupes without knowing it. Iago's racist hatred for blacks gives him a motivation for wanting to destroy Othello's happiness and also gives him a way to do it.Iago only needs to convince Othello that Desdemona hates him because of his color. Iago, in a way, must rationalize and naturalize his own ficti ons as truths in order to get Othello to believe him. He cannot succeed in causing Othello's jealousy unless he believes them, to some degree, himself. â€Å"The most unsettling thing about Iago [†¦ ] is his unblushing separation of being from seeming† (McEachern, 195). Although the reader never finds out what happens to Iago at the end of the play, it is assumed that he gets executed for his treason and lies.All of the energy he used trying to fight Othello, eventually caused his own destruction. Jealousy is destructive weather it is internal, like Iago's racism, or external like Iago's sly hints to Othello about Desdemona's unfaithfulness. â€Å"O† . JEALOUSY: There are many things that Hugo does that show his jealousy towards Odin. He shows shock and dismay when the coach of the team (who is also Hugo's father) said that he loves Odin like his own son. Hugo also takes steroids and other drugs to keep his performance up hoping to surpass Odin's skills.He tells R odger, (who plays the part of Rodrigo) â€Å"I'm considered a utility man. I rebound, I can shoot, I play guard, forward, power forward, you name the position, I fuckin' play it. † â€Å"The point is, I'm the MVP on this piece of shit team [†¦ ]† (â€Å"O†, scene 2). This shows jealousy of Odin because he was selected as MVP of the basketball team. Hugo actually admits that he is jealous, but he sees it as a flaw as opposed to Iago in the play. Hugo talks to Odin before a dunking contest in the gym and says that Odin should forget about Desi.He tells him that he has everything and that he would give his life to be in Odin's shoes and says that Desi is not a prize that he needs to win, but rather that Odin is the prize (â€Å"O†, scene 13). There is one place at the very end of the movie that Hugo directly admits to his jealousy. He is talking about a hawk and how it relates to power, darkness, determination, and to being proud. He says, â€Å"Odin i s a hawk, he soars above us. He can fly. But one of these days everyone's gonna pay attention to me. Because I'm gonna fly too† (â€Å"O†, scene 21).

Even though slavery had been abolished in 1869, most black people still lived in poverty. Black people earned half the amount white people earned and many could not vote. After Rosa Parks was arrested for refusing to move from her seat to allow a white person to sit down, King decided it was time to start acting and after calling a meeting, where it was decided for all black people to stop using the buses. This was called a bus boycott. After 381 days with buses being virtually empty (costing the company lots of money), the government passed a law to state that it was illegal to segregate black people from white people on the buses. This was a victory for King and his beliefs in non-violent direct action. King believed that the Good Samaritan parable was a prime example of how we should treat each other equally. In the parable a Jew is beaten, mugged and left for dead. A priest, a Levite both cross to the other side of the road when the see him. However when a Samaritan sees him he helps him and pays for accommodation and care for him despite Jews and Samaritans despising each other. This parable showed you should love each other as neighbours despite religion or race. King demonstrated how you should stick up for your dreams, follow your beliefs and how violence isn`t needed to achieve your goal. Options are running out for John. He has told the court about his affair with Abigail and said to Danforth that his wife will never lie. That woman will never lie. (Act 3 pg 74) He completely has faith in his wife, but if his wife will deny of the affair then John will be arrested on charges of contempt of court. Firstly John said that he would go to court, exactly what he said he will do. Proctor said he will admit to adultery saying his wife will never lie; he has absolute faith in her. As a result Elizabeth told her first ever lie because John isnt worth sacrificing. The audience see that Elizabeth does still love him. Also the audience see that John is entirely a man of his word. John is an ordinary man because he has committed sin! His wife is in prison because of him; hence it is his duty to save her. Proctor is neither an ordinary man nor a saint. I cannot mount like a gibbet like a saint (Act 4 pg 113) A saint is someone who is near to pure and has done something very important in order to change the world. He is angry with the court for saying he is evil but knows that they are the evil ones and it doesnt make a difference if he lies. John has done something good but it isnt quite there- spiritually developed. John could confess to be a witch. In addition it does not matter to him because he has done the worst sin there is compared to lying but he has to sign the papers. sign your testimony. (Act 4 pg 113) John does not want to sign the papers because of his name and for his children. John is an ordinary man because he wants his life but knows the cost of what he wants and stops himself because he wants to see his children grow into men. I want to live. (Act 4 pg 110). So basically which man does not want his life? Evidently he is an ordinary man; he does not want to die. The audience know John is an ordinary man but a changing ordinary man. John is churning in the crucible and nearly ready to be purified; John knows saving himself will cost another life, but he can put a full stop to it. John is a good man. John believes if he lives and others die for his life that is wrong. I speak my own sins; I cannot judge another. I have no tongue for it. (Act 4 pg 113). This means that he can talk his own sin but not others or that he will not accuse others for his own life. Proctor thinks not for himself but his children. He needs to give them a good name. I have confessed myself! no good penitence but it be public (Act 4 pg 114) and leave my name! (Act 4 pg 115). Proctor says because his conscience says he doesnt want a bad name for his children. He thinks that having his life means his children will have bad names and others will suffer. Also he doesnt want sign his confession especially for the public. Proctor is a fully spiritually developed man. He has refused to sign the paper, meaning his spoken confession is not counted. This gave him time to think and when conscious, spoke up. What others say and what I sign to is not the same! (Act 4 pg 115). Proctor knew or I shall I say he realised that his written confession would kill more people and only save himself. However if he dies, theres a full stop to all this nonsense. Proctor died to save others. The audience finally see the changed man for what he really is. Miller influences the audience in the way he refuses to sign and knew exactly what the consequence was going to be. John sees the shred of goodness in him, saying that he is white and should be kept away from dogs. The white symbolises the goodness and the dogs are the court. The dogs are the evil people from mythology, if dogs guarding hell and should be away from goodness; white. The decision he made was to stop everything bad and he wont go to hell because of what he has done. It makes John a good man, meaning his spiritual development is complete because he is dead and cant change anymore. John Proctor should have his shred of goodness because he has been churning long enough in the crucible pot. John Proctor is ready and purified and is a good man. He is finally, as I have mentioned, put a full stop to further deaths, being hung for witchcraft. This fact as it was proved in the Milgram experiment- where people would take another persons life without giving a second thought and were told to go even further, until they would die, Proctor was that person and did not listen. The higher up the class scale a person was the more likely they were to have an arranged marriage. Marriage was considered rather important as it enhanced your standing in society, especially for the male as he would become a person of consequence and would gain the role of master of the house. Conscious of the responsibilities a husband assumed on marriage, parents of daughters favoured a man of means and maturity.  [1]   Arranged marriages were frowned upon by the church but nevertheless many arranged marriages took place with the newlyweds often being in their early teens and marrying through pressure with some women felt forced into marriage by their circumstances, unwilling to remain a burden on their family.  [2]   However the lower class tended to marry somebody they had spent a great deal of time with as they tended to socialise in groups, the lower class often married at an older age due to the need to save up and acquire some land to set up home. Marriage in 16th Century Britain was very different to the marriages of todays world, as Stone pointed out marriage among the property-owning classes in sixteenth-century England was a collective decision of family and kin, not an individual one.  [3]   This shows that class was an important part of marriage with rich families often arranging marriages for their children from a very young age as It was more common for the wealthier families to arrange marriages as it was a serious and complicated matter but, as Stephanie Coontz put it, If love could grow out of it, that was wonderful .  [4]   Poorer people could marry later and had more choice. Civil and ecclesiastical law enabled marriage at an early age 12 for a girl and 14 for a boy. Bottom of Form Top of Form The legal requirements for a marriage before the Marriage act of 1753 was a simple process of promising to do so in the presence of a witness furthered by the physical consummating of the relationship. Such informal marriages were not approved by the church who wanted all couples to marry in church before a minister, after the public announcement of the intention to marry had been carried out for three weeks, this is also known as the reading of the banns but resorting to irregular marriage was evident in the sixteenth century.  [5]   This form of engagement was much stricter than those of today as such a promise was seen, as equivalent to a marriage and it would not be a rare occurrence for the brides to be carrying child. Most 17th century marriages were arranged weddings with consent being an important issue as love was not seen as a strong platform for marriage but was viewed as a foundation as this would mean the couple were both compatible and comfortable with one another. The brides family would often pay a sum of money known as a dowry to the groom to pay for the maintenance of the women who in return was promised her dower which was a percentage of the brides estate that the wife would be entitled to on his death. However, love did begin to be used for marriage with the enlightenment train of thought and the belief that the pursuit of happiness was the meaning of life. Marriage through love was now beginning to be considered more important than material goods. The Industrial Revolution would further consolidate this view as the middle class increased tenfold and young bachelors could afford to pay for their own wedding, parental approval and arrangement for marriage were no longer as important or needed. The Marriage Act 1753 or An Act for the Better Preventing of Clandestine Marriage to give it its full title gained Royal Assent in 1754 and came into force on March 25th of that year. It was the first statutory legislation to require a ceremony of marriage in England and Wales and revolutionized the way marriages performed. Consent to marry for anybody under the age of 21 was made law but a limit on age was not introduced. The wedding would also have to take place and be celebrated in church with an entry, signed by all parties, being placed in the parish records. It can be argued that the law was a response to the upper classes agitation at manner in which young heir were trapped in an indissoluble marriage and would lose their money. Furthermore, the Act made it a legal requirement for the reading of the banns to be carried out for three successive weeks prior to the wedding taking place if the parties wishing to marry did not have a license to do so. Marriages by under 21s were acceptable on licence if they had gained the parental consent they needed. However, marriages done so by the reading of the banns were valid unless the parent of the youngest had forbidden the banns. The Act was highly successful in its stated aim of putting a stop to clandestine marriages By the 18th Century, couples were increasingly given the freedom to choose their own partner and many relationships began being based on personal preference and attraction rather than by the parents orders. Top of Form By the 19th Century British women carried the expectation o becoming pregnant, however due to life expectancy being greater for girls than that of the boys, coupled with the number of males serving in the armed force resulted in a shortage of suitable spouses. English law became based on the principle that the male would earn the money whilst the females stayed at home and kept the house. The few women that did work saw her wages passed directly to their husbands under the 1882 Married Property Act. Womens rights had not really been affected by the Marriage Act with females from upper class families being the only ones who had access to education, albeit in subjects viewed as necessary skills for women, such as embroidery This lack of education was seen as unbeneficial by women as it did not develop the women in any way other than menial tasks. In her book, A vindication of the rights of women, Mary Wollstonecraft, claimed that through education would come emancipation and that women had a right to be educated due to it being she who is primarily responsible for the education of the young. Furthermore, Mary Wollstonecraft stated that educating the women the same, as men would strengthen marriage, as the couple would have some topic to share and talk about and that a stable marriage is a partnership between a husband and a wife a marriage is a social contract between two individuals Wollstonecraft goes on to argue that educating women will strengthen the marriage relationship. Her concept of marriage underlies this argument. A woman thus needs to have equal knowledge and sense, to maintain the partnership. A stable marriage also provides for the proper education of children.  [6]   It was impossible for a woman to be granted a divorce even if the male had committed adultery, as the ideal was that upper and middle class women were dependant on a male figure, father, and husband. Men were given the right to divorce if their woman had been adulterous under the Matrimonial Causes Act of 1857, women, however could not divorce their husband if he committed adultery. If a divorce was granted the ownership of the children was passed to the father who had the power to banish the mother from the children if he so desired. Divorce became a less and less taboo subject due to the religious reformation and the way in which society began to question the validity of the church and God. Notwithstanding the ardour of religious reformers in Europe, the established church was brought into question during the reign of Henry VIII and in turn, Protestantism prevailed with the new church taking precedent. The role of the family became an important issue for theorists, none more so than Lawrence Stone, who, in 1977, put forward his theory the three stages of movement within the family. Stone claims that a power shift in the attitudes towards marriage could be seen through the early modern period, with affective individualism replacing the cold patriarchal traits. Stones three movements can be summarised as: The open lineage family 1450 1630. The attitude towards relatives would have been formal to a point of almost been cynical and callous. Upper class couples were distant to each other and as a result, their (often-arranged) marriage was akin to a business relationship. The immediate family were held in the same regard as the lineage members. Restricted patriarchal nuclear family 1550 1700. The importance of kinship was replaced with a growing importance been placed on the immediate relatives. This coincided with The Reformation criticising arranged marriages and the coldness within them, along with stressing the importance of a close nit family. Closed domesticated nuclear family 1640 1800. Love becomes priority with patriarchy in fast decline. Children were shown great affection and seen as a gift rather than a burden. Marriage for love became the norm and replaced the economic reasons to marry. The rise of the romantic novel allowed sex and passion to be legitimate in marriage and not just a tool for reproduction. Romantic love was the reason for marriage, not business. Stone did face criticism though, perhaps, none more so than at the hands of Alan Macfarlane who claimed that Stones thesis was flawed as it had overlapping periods, which gave no consideration to the fact it created conflicting evidence. Stone was also criticised for using evidence associated with the Roman Catholics and using them to strengthen his argument about the Reformation, for example claiming sex was a mere tool for procreation. Stones argument that people were discouraged from marriage and emotional attachment due to the high mortality rate is flawed, given that the mortality rates had sustained a high rate in the early eighteenth century, a time that Stone claims affection and love was growing and taking over as the main reason for marriage Finally, manuscripts and other medieval sources (Chaucer) did not back up, nor consolidate his argument that marriage was a loveless union with a lack of affection for the spouses. The Victims Essay -- Analysis, Sharon Olds

The process of addressing memories of private suffering within â€Å"The Victims† by Sharon Olds is implied through contradictive perspectives. In the poem there is a shift in focus and tone during line 17. The poem addresses issues of suffering from two distinct perspectives, the first coming from a little girl and the second a grown woman. The narrative, imagery and diction are different in the two contrasting parts of the poem, and the second half carefully qualifies the first, as if to illustrate the more mature and established attitudes of the narrator in her older years – a stipulation of the easy imitation of the earlier years, when the mother’s views dominated and set the tone. Change has governed the poems structure here; differences in age and attitude are supported by an entirely different point of view and frame of reference. The change in the tone of the stylistic elements used by Sharon Olds implicitly portrays the impact that suffering has on the f amily sphere; the complex emotions that arise because of divorce are conveyed through past and present perspectives, comparative imagery and a significant shift in tone. The change in perspective of the narrative, from past to present, portrays the father in two different lights. The poem is told from the point of view of the daughter of a couple who experience marriage problems. The beginning of â€Å"The Victims† illustrates the memories that the woman is recalling nostalgically of her childhood. From lines 1 to 17 the narrator evokes her father, with the repetition of â€Å"you†, (1, 3) who had acted terribly during the narrator’s youth and who was abruptly kicked out and divorced by the mother. The narrator describes her father who, to his daughter, lived a luxurious and insensitive... ...Olds to portray to the reader, through diction, the image of a drowning person. This image, after being taken, analyzed and dissected, reveals deeper connections with the narrator, the narrator’s father and society as a whole. In conclusion, â€Å"The Victims† concerns real purposes and themes that enhance the overall text. When perceiving the term victim many people immediately think of a target of violence or abuse. In the poem â€Å"The Victims†, Olds portrays the sufferers as victims of an experience, rather than a physical scar. As a child, Sharon Olds’ parents divorced. So who is the victim in â€Å"The Victims†? As the narrative, imagery and diction evolve, from the first half to the second half of the poem, so does the classification of victim. Blame in Romeo and Juliet Essay

In the play â€Å"Romeo and Juliet† a series of unfortunate the circumstances and illogical decisions force the protagonists into an impossible position ultimately resulting in their death. As Il-fated as the two â€Å"star-crossed lover’s† may have been the root of all their problems can be traced back to rash decisions by characters and circumstances placed unfairly on characters by warped societal expectations. While the Friar had nothing but the best intentions his illogical and somewhat naive decisions contributed greatly to the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. Romeo’s impulsive, dangerous and irrational behavior is also to blame. Societal expectations and outside influences can be partly to blame for many of the characters irrational decisions. Although these expectations could be to blame for two lovers parents behavior it does not justify them completely, thus they are also to blame. None of these reasons can be blamed in isolation but all contributed to the ultimate outcome of Romeo and Juliets relationship. The Friar was very mush to blame for the tragic outcome of Romeo and Juliet. He was continuously relied on for advice from Romeo and Juliet and failed to acknowledge his mistakes after their deaths. The Friar is blame because he married the two with their parents consent and thought that Romeo’s love lied â€Å" not truly in [his] heart, but in [his] eyes†. Instead he foolishly chose to marry the two, purely â€Å"to turn [their] households’ rancor to pure love† despite being unknowing of the true nature of their dispute as a priest. Not only this, but he also expressed that things were moving too fast and that â€Å"violent delights (such as Romeo’s and Juliet’s love) have violent ends† but continued with the wedding anyway. He failed to listen to his own wisdom and take things â€Å"wisely and slowly†. Despite prolonging the lives of two suicidal teenagers, they placed their trust in him when he promised to â€Å"blaze [their] marriage†¦beg pardon to the Prince, and call thee back†. Because he made no attempt at doing so, he instilled false hope into the couple, which also contributed to their deaths. Furthermore he failed to personally deliver the letter explaining Juliet’s faked death to Romeo, instead outsourcing it to another Friar without telling him of its urgency. This lack of responsibility repeats itself when he gives an unstable, teenage girl a fake-death poison, a risky idea he should have known better not to do. Furthermore, he leaves Juliet when she is at her most vulnerable,  alone together with her dead husband. Because he was the only adult Romeo could trust, the Friar’s naive, rash and immature decisions that neglected to look after Romeo and Juliet properly were at the epicenter for why their deaths occurred. The melodramatic character of Romeo is also very much to blame for his fate because of his impulsive decisions and his inability to control his emotions. Mature enough to show genuine love for Juliet he is unable to make logical decisions. Although he showed enough common sense to avoid a fight with Tybalt it is clear that when misfortune swallows Romeo he becomes an impulsive and somewhat selfish person, valuing his own pride over a life together with Juliet. His immaturity is illustrated when he describes himself as â€Å"fortunes fool† or saying that Juliet made him weak, as he is merely passing the blame along rather than accepting full responsibility. It is obvious that because of Romeo’s weakness, Juliet suffers too. Whether it is taking a potion or killing herself she continuously risks her neck to help undo her husband’s wrongdoings. In Friar Laurence’s words Romeo â€Å"is set afire by thine own ignorance†¦ like powder in a skill-less soldiers flask.† By climbing the Capulet’s walls, marrying Juliet within days, killing Tybalt and himself, his lack of foresight and awareness of how his actions affected others ultimately lead to Juliet’s and his own death. The pressures and expectations formed and enforced by society, forced the characters, into impossible situations, which forced difficult and risky decisions. The Patriarchal society meant women such as Juliet had no voice in things such as their own marriage. This, coupled with the unjustified conflict in Verona meant that Juliet was unable to Marry in public, which set off a chain of events ultimately leading to her death. These same values forced Romeo into conflict with the malevolent Tybalt. At first he eludes fighting, telling Tybalt that he â€Å"loves thee better than thou cant devise† but despite being loving person at heart the patriarchal society which promoted masculinity acted as a catalyst for Romeos impulsive character. The corrupting influence of this societal value forced Romeo to maintain honor and revenge Tybalt because Juliet â€Å"made him effeminate† or weak like a women. Furthermore the societal values of loyalty to one family meant pride  alone kept the futile conflict a part of everyone’s lives. Because of this and the need to respect ones elders unconditionally it meant that Romeo and Juliet were not able to stand up to their parents and declare the marriage public. When Juliet showed any sort of rebellion toward her parent regarding marriage she was abused and practically disown. Even after this loyalty to her family influenced Juliet to use â€Å" a thing like death† in order to be with Romeo and â€Å"to ‘scape from (the shame)† that would come with running away from her family. The Parents of Romeo and Juliet are also to blame because as adults they should have showed maturity and put away their pride like the youthful Romeo and Juliet and put an end to the unjustified conflict. Firstly Capulet directly influences the outcome by forcing the marriage between Juliet and Paris despite Juliet’s obvious discomfort. But as adults they had the greater responsibility of putting an end to the conflict but quite to the contrary they were seen encouraging and wanting to actively engage in it when the fight broke out between rival servants. The reason for the tragedy cannot be blamed on fate because the environment that the parents created meant that their whole love affair was doomed from the beginning. There was no-way their marriage in secret could last forever because enviably Juliet would be forced to marry somebody else. The hope, which the youthfulness of Romeo and Juliet embodied, was foiled by the reality created by their parents. Without this mutual ha ted the fight between Tybalt and Mercutio would not have occurred, and there would be no issue marrying Romeo thus the outcome of the play can be directly attributed to the conflict instilled in society by the parents of Romeo and Juliet. In the play a series of unfortunate situations and illogical decisions by characters create a downhill spiral, which escalates ultimately to the death of Romeo and Juliet. The Friar can be regarded as the character that should have and did know better but failed to act accordingly. While Romeo blinded by emotions failed to make logical decisions or take into account the impact they had on others. These characters were put under unnecessary pressure by social expectations that existed primly because the parents of Romeo and Juliet failed to stop the unjustified conflict in Verona. None of these  factors can be blamed in isolation they all were pivotal causes of the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet.
